Review

This project was a creative project that allowed me to develop and create a personal visual and audio product. Research was carried out throughout the project and that gave me the inspiration to create a product that shows feelings and emotions too real life situations. Using my photography and software skills, I created small animations and video recorded to create a story narrative of a lover reading a letter that she had received from her love one from war who is now in heaven. To create feelings and emotions of such a tragic event I used a sound track. The letter she reads is the poem that has been created in the mind of bringing emotion and feelings through the idea.

What's left to do....

Today I finished making changes to my final project, I have exported my video and burnt it onto a CD ready to hand in, Thrusday the 19th January at 2.00pm. I have looked over my blog, spell checked and have proof read it to make sure it is all up to date.

Added a verse in my poem last minute

Its been a long time coming and I hope im nearly there,
no matter how far I must travel,
I know I must be there.

they say even if you go away,
your home is still inside you,
although my love will never fade,
I hope the pain will drive you.

take my hand im right beside you,
today, tomorrow, forever,
the times we spent in our lives together,
will be in my heart my dear delilah.

home is in our childs laughter,
home is where we grew,
home is now a new chapter,
your lives should grew to a new.
If I never reach our loving home,
I am not alone, don't moan,
as time does pass the wounds should heal,
my love, my friend, my darling its real. (This is the added verse)

as long as you hold someone in your heart,
my childhood sweetheart,
you can never loose them,
but now ive gone,
this letter my last one,
my soul will place in the home I lived.

Creating the visual

Over the weekend I spent 18hrs creating visual stuff from stil photo graphs and video footage I had. I used the software Adobe Aftereffects to create mini video effects to create a story narrative to support my audio track already develop.

Taking Photos and Video Recording

I spent a few hours taking the photos I needed. I used a stills camera (E1) and set the settings to take the pictures in the format RAW so that I could edit them in Photoshop.

As I was editing the photos and idea of how to make pictures more interesting came to me. I used colour and black and white to separate the meaning of the photo from past to present. I also had the idea of some how creating suttle movement in the pictures. The idea of this made think that if I put them at the end of the video it brings the imagination of hope.

I will be using fade in and fade out transitions throughout the video as light to me is a symbol of light in heaven.

Researching Visual affects for the video and editing stages

I want the creative visual part of this project to display a finished warming but emotional/feeling view across of how war can affect everyone around you.

My poem will be used as the letter from a loved one who has died in war. The visual part will show a women reading this letter in her homely chair. The video will show the photos within the room were she is sitting to show the past of their lives together.
I will also be taking photos that resembles war to show the effect it can have on lovers.These are a few examples from the internet that I have looked at and will be using as part of the process of taking simialer pictures for my project.

Editing

I will be editing the photos using the software adobe after effects to create effects ontop of the pictures so that its more interesting for viewers to watch. These effects will be effects that add extra emotion to the images and video. The idea of this was for me too use my skills and develop them to make still pictures more interesting.

I will be using a Full HD camera too video the scenes I need of the woman reading the letter. The idea of filming this is too create a story narrative.

The final stages of editting, will be produced using the software adobe premiere and I will be exporting this in the format H.264. I am using this format because it will display a good quality video with a small file size.


I will be using Adobe AfterAffects and premiere to make my video. I will be creating a range of effects to create this.

Practice and Recording session

Over the few weeks I had played my Gutair to gather some tunes that could work as part of the project. During the practice before recording the tunes I decided on one tune that I preferred to the others. So I recorded this tune and then played on the drums to find a drum rhythm to support this.

I wanted my drum beat to be simple and sound like the rhythm of soilders marching. After a few hours of trials I recorded my final desicion of rhythm beat that would work well.

I also wanted the famous tune The Last Post. So I was fortunate to know someone who would allow me to record them playing it, to fit nicely into the theme of War and loved ones in grieving.

I spent 6hrs recording all the parts to my audio track so then I edited the different recordings into one audio track to support my video that I had to create later on.

Creating and recording my audio

This evening I will be creating a music tune and recording it to fit the poem. I will be creating a melody on Gutair and creating a rhythm on the drums.

For the introduction and ending of the video I will record the Last Post on trumpet.

I will record each instrument individually and then edit them in time with the poem using the software Pro Tools.

I will record my poem after I have edited the audio music together so that I can record the poem in time with the music for it to follow the rhythm. Once this is done, I can then start to develop my visual animations to support the lyrics in the poem and the movement speed of the audio track.

Research for music inspiration

I think that the instruments that would work well to produce a music audio track to support my poem would be the use of Drums, Gutair and Trumpet.

1st draft of my poem

Dear my lover,

Writing my poem

I have created my 1st draft of the poem for my project. I started to write the poem about War, but as I was writting it started to sound like a letter from a loved one.

So I inturperated the themes love and war together. I think that Love and War is a theme that works well to share emotions and feelings to the person listening.
When I wrote the poem I repeated the word "Home" alot. I done this beacause the word home makes you think of warmth, safe and secure which is the opposite to what has really happens at War.

What is a poem?

A poem is often written from how the poets feelings and emotions are, either from the past, present or future. A poet often writes about either events that have happened, good or bad, in their lives. A poet can often use thereselves as the person personified in the poem. As it gives them the chance to release possible anguish and inner thoughts.

What sort of poems are there?

There are different types of poems. A poem can be rhythmical, have sequence, or rhyme to it. A rhythmical poem, for example:-

Music is part of my everyday life,
it's the one thing that makes me feel alive.
No matter what it could be,
all music influences me.
A sequenced poem, can either be a hymn or a chant. For Example:-

"Fear not, I am with thee";
Blessed golden ray,
Like a star of glory,
Lighting up my way!
Through the clouds of midnight,
This bright promise shone,
"I will never leave thee,
Never will leave thee alone."

A rhyming poem, often means the last word of the second and fourth line will rhyme for example:-

Lie beneath a spreading tree
With golden flowers in the sun.
Count to five on all the petals,
Never think of five plus one.

Poems from a Magazine

As part of the research, I widend my research material by looking at poems in the Magazines. I looked at poems from magazines, to see if the poems would be more suitable. From this research I discovered were more meaningful poems as they were by people who had lost relatives. Bringing all my research together, both different resources of research (internet and magazines) gave me inspiration for my own creation of poetry.

Looking at poems from the Internet as part of my research and development

From my brainstorm I have decided to look at three topics that I want my project to be on.

I have looked at a few poems for each topic. From looking at different poems on the internet, they have given me inspiration to develop my own poem. I will be creating my own poem because I felt that the poems I had read already from writters didnt have the story narative or feeling to them that I was looking for.

Planning and gathering ideas

To start this project I created a Todo list of the different elements involved in the research,development and time management so that I could use the list for a guide throughout the project process.
